VOICES Speaker Series: Getting Organized

Getting Organized
Kick off the new year by reducing the stress and chaos in your life - make January your "Get Organized" month! Professional Organizer, Joan Melroy, will conduct this workshop that explores why people accumulate so many things, how to look at organizing it, and ways to release or store what you have. Learn some practical tips and ideas to help you overcome some of your organizing challenges. Learn why there are many ways to accomplish the same goal and why the same way doesn't work for everyone. Be sure to bring questions about your own organizing challenges. More.

Resources for Sandy Hook Tragedy

Resources for Sandy Hook Tragedy
This weekend we had an opportunity to spend two days in Sandy Hook and offer our support. As you can imagine, the community is still in shock over the tragic loss of the young children and teachers who heroically protected their classrooms. Many families we spoke with asked about resources and guidance in talking with their children about the event. We have also heard from many of our members who report that the tragedy brings back memories of their own personal loss on 9/11. More.

Resources for Recovery

Superstorm Sandy Resources

I hope this note finds you and your family safe following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who tragically lost loved ones and those whose homes were destroyed or damaged by fire and flooding. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Mayor Bloomberg, Governor Christie, Governor Malloy and Governor Cuomo, much progress has been made in coordinating with local, state and federal agencies in the recovery effort.

As happened after the attacks on 9/11, thousands of rescue workers and volunteers have traveled from around the country to provide assistance to those in need. It has been heartwarming to witness once again the strength of the human spirit and to hear remarkable stories of bravery, caring and compassion. More.

Voices of September 11th 9/11 Day of Remembrance Events

9/11 Day of Remembrance Events
Voices of September 11th will host several events to commemorate the 11th Anniversary. More than 300 of our members helped us plan the events by responding to our survey. Their suggestions guided our staff in creating programs that are designed to be informative, commemorative, and provide an opportunity for the 9/11 community to come together for the 11th Anniversary. Many 9/11 families asked us to plan a commemorative luncheon on September 11th following the observance. More.

Brooke Jackman Foundation 2012 Read-A-Thon

On Saturday, September 8th from 1pm - 4pm the Brooke Jackman Foundation will hold its annual read-a-thon from 12:00pm - 1:30pm at the Winter Garden at the World Financial Center. For the third year, the Brooke Jackman Foundation celebrates the positive and transformative power of literacy with its annual Read-A-Thon where an array of guest readers bring words to life inspiring children, their families, and the community gathered for an afternoon of books and bonding.

The Brooke Jackman Foundation (BJF) was created in 2001 to honor Brooke Jackman, a compassionate 23-year-old who was killed on 9/11. Brooke's passion for literacy and helping children moved the Jackman family to create BJF as Brooke's living legacy. Since its creation, BJF has donated nearly 100,000 books and 15,000 "Brooke Packs," backpacks filled with books and school supplies, to children and families in need.
