City: New Providence
State: New Jersey
Country: United States

Description: A block party planning meeting in Flower Mound, Texas resulted in the idea of creating a memorial to the victims of the September 11, 2001 tragedies that would be located somewhere in the New York, New Jersey or Washington, D.C. area that suffered losses. The project was started within 6 months of September 11th.
Connie Miller, the project organizer, searched many New Jersey municipalities and through the Dallas, Texas Red Cross and the Summit, New Jersey Red Cross found the New Providence website where information regarding Centennial Park was listed. This was the kind of project that the group from Flower Mound wished to be a part of, and contacted Borough Officials to find out how they can be a part of it.
An 8' x 8' granite memorial is placed in the very center of the park. The etchings were created by children of the organizers.
