Description: The Brooklyn Remembers Memorial, appropriately named “The Beacon,” is a 25 foot tall bronze memorial in the shape of a speaking trumpet, a device once used by firemen to warn the public and communicate orders during a fire. This memorial has been equipped with lights similar to the annual Tribute in Lights, only smaller and on a more permanent basis. The Beacon was designed and built by artist Robert Ressler, whose design was selected through a competition and approved by the Art Commission in February of 2004. The memorial was cast from bronze at Bedi-Macky, a foundry in Greenpoint best known for having cast the Iwo Jima Memorial
