Purpose:
The memorial is for remembrance of the victims and heroes of 9-11. It is an attempt to respond to the attack through a living landscape.
Reason site was selected:
The site is a new park that the Chamber of Commerce and Carmel Parks Department has already been working on, that is centrally located at two major roads in Carmel. It is on the waterfront, has some initial landscaping done, and has a gazebo, and the Chamber hopes that it will become a useful public space for residents to gather and remember.
Events planned for site:
The time frame of the site will depend on funding and the firming up of their design, but they hope to hold ongoing public events including on Flag Day, Memorial Day, and 9-11, involving groups like the American Foreign Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Do you believe your memorial is a sacred place?:
The chamber said that "we want to develop it as a sacred space because of the Putnam County servicemen that died."
