Description:
Purpose:
We believe a memorial at Crescent Beach Park will symbolize the love, honor and commitment our community has for the victims and survivors of 9/11/01. The memorial will offer a place (centrally located on the South Shore of Staten Island) for loved ones to gather in a serene waterfront setting and will reflect the love and respect of our community for our flag and our country. From Crescent Beach Park, the skyline of Manhattan is visible - we are located in Great Kills Harbor.
Reason site was selected:
This site was selected because it is currently a community park in planning - the community has erected a makeshift memorial and our civic association believes that it would be fitting for a permanent memorial.
Events planned for site:
We will offer a candle light vigil at the site on the evening of September 11, 2002 - and probably every year thereafter. Our annual block party is held every year the weekend after Labor Day - to which the community participates actively and we believe our community will welcome the chance for passive/active use of this site as a Memorial and Garden Community Gathering site.
Do you believe your memorial is a sacred place?:
A place where one can reflect, remember, pray
