Dedicated to: Sharon Ossenbruggen
Type of Memorial: Tree Grove
Address: 271 Mast Road
City: Durham
State: New Hampshire
Country: United States
Open to Public: No
Description:
Purpose:
The Sharon Ossenbruggen Sustainable Landscape Demonstration, known to staff as Sharon's Arboretum, is itself a living memorial to former USDA Forest Service Urban Forester Sharon Ossenbruggen. The September 11th Memorial Hemlock within Sharon's Arboretum provides a dedicated place for remembrance.
Reason site was selected:
Sharon's Arboretum provides enduring value, as an environmental example and also as a social example of the benefits we derive from nature. There was a natural fit between the established memorial arboretum and a planting that would honor the lives lost and heroes made on September 11th.
Events planned for site:
As Sharon's Arboretum matures, it will serve as a small-scale demonstration area surrounding the USDA Forest Northeastern Research Station and Northeastern Area State & Private Forestry Field Office, Durham, NH.
Do you believe your memorial is a sacred place?:
It is a place, just outside our doorstep, where we can go to take in fresh air and sunlight, and pause to reflect.
