Purpose:
To remember September 11 and to serve as a Living Memorial. According to Jennifer Martin, "it is our hope that as the garden grows, terrorism will subside, and freedom will bloom indefinitely."
Reason site was selected:
There are already several war memorials located within this site, as well as veterans and police monuments.
Events planned for site:
The city held a Flag Day dedication ceremony with the mayor, police, fire, and housing authority representatives. They will hold ongoing annual memorials on Flag Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and September 11.
